Daily Union

What I find most amazing is the number of people who apparently had no idea what was going to happen when Walker came to town.

By Ryan Whisner
Regional Editor

More than 300 people gathered outside Opportunities Inc. Thursday afternoon to protest the appearance of Gov. Scott Walker at the company's 45th anniversary gala........

The Nation and Associate Editor of The Capital Times joins us every morning at 8:00.

Marge Passman - Performance Based Funding's Pitfalls

Marge Passman, long time Madison teacher and current Madison School Board member, talks about how the Walker regime's plan to judge district funding and teacher performance based on student academic performance isn't as straight-forward as Douche Nozzle makes it sound.

Stories From Walker's Visit To Opportunities Inc

The Walker Stalkers lived up to our name last night, with a crowd of over 400 surrounding Opportunities Inc where the governor spewed about Wisconsin being "open for business". Per usual, the motorcade drove through the crowd at speed and with authority, not even slowing down for human beings in their path. Ed Sadlowski and Marve join me to talk about it. Absolutely unbelievable showing of all you guys from Jefferson - THANK YOU.

FAA Shutdown 2011

Link

Congress went stalemate last week, and the funding hit the ceiling. Besides the workers that have been furloughed as a result, another big loss is the research and development that was intended to both streamline air travel and to make it safer.

John Nichols - Tea Party vs Republicans

John Nichols joins Sly every morning at 8:00.

Walker To Beat The Heat @ Slave Factory

Today (actually, tonight, in an failed effort to thwart the Walker Stalkers) Governor Walker will be honoring and admiring what he calls a job. Well - it's really a minimum-wage assembly place called Opportunities Inc. One of the many complaints about the working environment from the slaves is that the heat is unbearable. Scott is coming prepared, with portable air conditioning for he and his clan.

Robert Craig: Funeral Director

We're gonna have a funeral for Medicare and Medicaid at Alberta Darling's office. Of course, she isn't the one who'll be mourning. Robert Craig, Funeral Director for a day, but normally from Citizen Action of Wisconsin/Milwaukee will be officiating.

Concealed Carry vs Pick-Out Knock-Out

The latest formula for fun of Madison's criminal thug community is known as
Pick-out-Knock-out. It works like this: The perp walks up to the victim, along with a few companions. Strike up a conversation about the weather or gas prices, and WHAM. Victim goes to the hospital. Will Wisconsin's Concealed Carry legislation, which takes effect in November, help put an end to it?

Lesbians in Dollywood

DollyWood's idea of a family environment evidently doesn't cater to the out lesbian community, wearing their "Marriage Is So Gay" t-shirts.

Exclusive: Opportunities Inc Whistleblower Robert Huessner

Opportunities Inc. employee and courageous citizen Robert Huessner tells us about the darker side of his employer, which the governor is honoring this Thursday in celebration of their 45th anniversary. While some aspects of this company may be admirable, their use of temporary workers to do outsourced work from other companies leaves big gaping questions regarding their integrity as an employer in Wisconsin. SLY AND CREW WILL BE THERE TO WELCOME WALKER AT 4:15

John Nichols - The GOP Unhinged

John Nichols joins me once again to talk about the Governor honoring Opportunities Inc. on Thursday. Temporary workers are not only being exploited by Opportunities Inc but they are also doing outsourced work from other corporations like Purina & Trek who are trying to keep cheap labor off their books.

Nichols also comments on the looming U.S. default and the absolute insanity happening inside the Republican Party. These people are actively trying to keep this bad economy going just to preserve corporate loopholes and tax cuts for billionaires.

Representative Andy Jorgensen - Jefferson Co. DMV Demise

State Rep Andy Jorgensen, a Democrat from Fort Atkinson stopped by this morning to talk about the Republicans' systematic attacks on him and his constituents. First, it was collective bargaining rights. Then, redistricting. Now, they're closing his district's DMV office. It's pretty clear that this is all political retribution, and the people of Jefferson County are paying for it. Jorgensen also comments about Gov. Walker's appearance at Opportunities, Inc. tomorrow.

Wauwatosa Window Signs

Wauwatosa is home to Scott Walker's family, and the neighborhood, specifically the route which his two children walk on their way to school, has been littered with recall signs. Wauwatosa has ordinances against political signs in certain areas, but one thing is for sure: Your window can say whatever it wants, even though your lawn can't. What should 'Tosa windows say?

Drug-Sniffing Dogs for Madison Schools

Madison's School Board is debating whether or not to bring in Fido and friends to search the hallways and parking lots of our schools for illegal substances. This definitely wasn't the attitude back when I went to Memorial High in the 70's. In fact, the dogs could have been used to ensure that we had a little extra lunch treat on hand... Is this invasion of privacy, or protecting our children from themselves?

Happy Meal Goes Healthy?

The world's largest fast-food chain has decided to jump on the health-food wagon. At least, that is, as healthy as a McDonald's Happy Meal can be with fewer calories.

Bloody Balloon Battle At The Capitol

Tension are high in Fitzwalkerstan this morning. Yesterday, Leslie Peterson was in the Capitol when DOA Staffer Ron Blair spotted.... a heart-shaped balloon. Blair charged Peterson from behind, swinging a knife violently in a desperate attempt to pop the balloon. Blair ended up stabbing himself and came very close to injuring Peterson. The Walker cartel hates balloons because they are a reminder of the mass protests sparked by Walker's attack on public sector unions. They have become obsessed with making sure that balloons are destroyed at any cost.

I take your calls and then Leslie Peterson joins me to talk about the confrontation she had with Ron Blair. Peterson committed no crime and an investigation has been launched against Ron Blair. If you or I choked a Supreme Court Justice or wielded a knife in a threatened manner IN the Capitol, we would of been arrested on the spot. Not so if you are a Walker goon.

Leo Gerard - Profits Over People

My good friend Leo Gerard, International President of the United Steelworkers, is on to talk about a positive allegiance with Mexico. Corporate power is on the rise and it coincides with the decline of union membership. Gerard also tells us about a dirty little free-trade group that includes Governor Douche-Nozzle, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. That is an unholy alliance if I ever saw one.

Ed Sadlowski - Opportunities Inc. Dark Side

By Walker decree, Thursday will be deemed Opportunities Inc. Day across the land. He'll give the proclamation at Opportunities Inc. in Ft. Atkinson. While on the surface, Opportunities Inc. seems like a good company that helps the disable enter the workforce, there is a very dark side. AFSCME's Ed Sadlowski Jr. joins me to give some troubling news about Opportunity Inc.'s temporary workforce.

We need Walker Stalkers at Opportunities Inc. this Thursday to protest the Governor.
Opportunities Inc.
200 E Cramer St, Fort Atkinson, WI
4:15-7pm

John Nichols - Balloons, Blood, and Boehner

John Nichols joins me once again to talk about the bizarre story out of the Capitol where a DOA official charged a protester with a knife in order to pop a heart shaped balloon she happened to be holding. As the recall elections edge closer, the wheels are coming off the wagon for many of Walker's goons.

Nichols and I also discuss how Republicans in Congress are the laughing stock of the world. They have taken our economy hostage and the rest of the world is wondering if lunatics have taken over the U.S. government.

Scotty's Sweatshop

On Thursday, Governor Walker will declare July 28th Opportunity Inc Day across the State. He will also be the keynote speaker at Opportunity Inc.'s 45h anniversary gala that day. There is a dark side to this story.

I stumbled upon a shocking letter to the editor in the Jefferson Daily Union from an Opportunity Inc. employee who felt an obligation to tell the truth. Turns out Opportunity Inc. employs a lot of temp workers at minimum wage levels with no hope for advancement, zero health care, no holiday pay on Christmas, and they don't even provide a comfortable work environment. Walker wants to HONOR this modern-day American sweatshop.

Perhaps the most telling fact in this disgusting story is that temp workers have been told there is no work on Thursday due to the Governor's visit, so they will not be paid.

Walker Worse Than Dahmer

I made some Democrat leaders squirm when I said at my Milwaukee broadcast that Scott Walker is worse than Jeffrey Dahmer (it is the 20th anniversary of his arrest after all). While Walker may not EAT his victims, Walker has destroyed the lives of thousands of people. Even Dahmer can't keep up with Walker's casualty count.
